Flood risk advice to minimise the damage from flood waters
Some 5 million properties in England – a total of one in six properties – are at risk of flooding from coastal, river and surface water according to the Government's flood risk management report.
Floods can be surprisingly quick to develop, with people having less than half an hour’s warning of a river or stream bursting its banks. It is impossible to completely flood-proof a property but by carrying out a flood risk assessment and having a plan you can help reduce the damage flooding can cause. We have developed a flood checklist with simple steps you can take to lessen the damage a flood may cause to church buildings.
If you are unsure if you are at risk of flooding check the Environment Agency free floodline warning system. It can give you advance notice of flooding and give you valuable time to put in place suitable flood protection. To find out more or to register go to: Floodline.
