Important Announcement – Engineering Inspections

An update on engineering inspections during COVID-19.

If you hold an Engineering Inspection contract, please be aware that the rules around inspection of engineering items have not been relaxed by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and wherever it is safe for you to organise and facilitate, you should continue to go ahead with your inspection during this lockdown period.  We remind you that for any items that are due a statutory inspection over the lockdown period, you do have a legal responsibility to ensure this is completed.  If the item is not inspected by the due date, whilst your organisation will not be breaking the law for as long as the plant or machinery is not in use, upon reopening it will not be able to be used until it is inspected. It is anticipated that when the lockdown restrictions lift, there could be an enormous demand on inspection resources, resulting in a further delay.
 
To ensure ongoing compliance with statutory regulations, the HSE recommends that, where it is safe to do so, you provide access to closed premises in line with Government rules and regulations to enable inspections to be completed in a low-risk environment where social distancing rules can be followed.
